The Atex textile fabric is used for ceiling panels in the new terminal of Heathrow Airport

JSC „Valmieras stikla šķiedra” subsidiary company’s Valmiera Glass UK Ltd produced textile-membrane Atex® fabrics has been extensively used in the ceiling panels of the new Terminal 2 of Heathrow Airport covering about 50 000 square meters of space. Accordingly to the available information the terminal which is to be opened on 4th of June 2014 will let more than 55 thousand people daily that is 20 million people yearly  traveling from UK or other destinations to observe this marvelous architectural wonder which has been built with the use of silicon-coated Atex® material.

This is one of the largest projects in which the Atex® textile-membrane produced by Valmiera Glass UK Ltd has been used. The company responsible for the ceiling solutions Maffeis Engineering S.p.A. is one of the leading design companies in the field of architectural design membranes.

With this large-scale project Valmiera Glass Group continues to strengthen its position within the architectural sphere. Atex® membranes had been previously also used in the projects of other world’s leading architectural companies thereby acknowledging the high quality of this certain fibre-glass product. Some of the latest projects where Atex® textile-membrane has been used are the Zénith de Strasbourg  multifunctional arena in France, as well as the Shanghai Expo exhibition hall in China and the company’s Sedus Stoll research centre in Germany.

Atex® is a high-stress performance; fire-safe textile product coated with silicon that is widely used in architecture. This fabric is used for creation of lightweight membranes which are integrated in roof coverings, canopies and awnings, facade covers, ceiling constructions as well as interior design and has been used for multiple other purposes. The Atex® materials are available in variety of colours, they are easy to clean and their estimated lifespan is more than 25 years.
