Traditionally in summer, JSC Valmieras stikla šķiedra offers young people to gain work experience at the company. This year, we employed 22 young people, although twice as many were interested.
Summer jobs during study-free time are created in order to give young people a chance to discover interest for production processes, to learn about the diversity of career possibilities, and encourage an evaluation of which activity might interest them and how to become a professional in that sphere.
The young people also admit that work after the study period opens up discoveries, increases professional skills, and is a great experience opportunity at an international company. Many have expressed their readiness to work for JSC Valmieras stikla šķiedra again next summer or to practise their specialty here.
„I am satisfied with the experience I collected at the company’s Power Supply and Automatics Department as I was able to apply knowledge from my studies. I would like to work here after studying as the company is highly competitive and has good future perspectives”, says Sandis Eglītis, student at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Transport and Aeronautics of Riga Technical University. Monta Grāvelsiņa, student at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, reveals: „Working for the Human Resources Department was a great challenge. My greatest gain has been learning to get rid of timidity when talking to strange people. It has been a great experience in terms of communication and working skills!”
D.Volkopa, board member and Human Resources Manager at JSC Valmieras stikla šķiedra, points out that „Young people collect their first experience during their job interview – the first for many. We therefore provide them with positive feedback on how to prepare, how to present oneself when starting off into the job market. We are glad that young people see the importance of investing in oneself in order to be successful. Summer jobs might take away their holiday feeling, but we are certain that coming to work every morning and achieving production goals in a team makes up for idling and opens a prospect on personal career and growth.”
