Chopped strands

We produce chopped glass fiber strands from two types of glass: E-glass with a thermal resistance of up to 600°C and SiO2-glass with a thermal resistance of up to 1000+°C. Each glass type has its own properties, hence also application areas.

Chopped strands are short glass fiber strands that retain the initial structure of the yarn also when chopped. The length of the chopped strand is 3, 6, 9 to 12 mm, while the filament diameter is 6, 9, 11 to 13 μm.

Chopped fiberglass strands which are made of alkali-free alumina borosilicate E type glass fibre (EC) have a length of 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm, while the filament diameter is 6, 9, 11 to 13 µm.

Application: chopped strands are designed for the production of glass paper and air filters for cars.

Type of sizing: SCG; SP - silane sizings.

Parameters: chopped glass fibre strands are delivered in plastic bags, 20 and 25 kg per bag.

Designation: e.g. EC 6-6mm, where:
EC - type (chopped E-glass strand),
6 - filament diameter, μm,
6 mm - length of the chopped fiber.

HR-glass (High-Resist glass) is alkali-free aluminosilicate glass that does not contain boron oxide. This glass type could fully substitute E-glass in various aspects. The most important feature of this type of glass is its heat resistance of up to 800°C.

Advantages of HR glass fibre compared to E-glass:

  • higher chemical resistance, particularly in alkaline and water environments;
  • higher heat resistance;
  • environmentally friendlier glass melting process - does not create dust emissions containing boron oxide.

We offer chopped glass fiber strands with high SiO2 content and silica chopped glass fiber strands (KC) with heat resistance up to 1000+°C. High-silica chopped strands are a new-generation heat-resistant material.

Application: broad-spectrum; products can be used in various high-tech fields (such as aviation and space industry, chemical industry, metallurgy, special clothing manufacturing, power production, machine building, etc.) that require heat resistance (up to 1000+°C) materials. High-silica materials can be used anywhere where low thermal conductivity, inertness to most chemical reagents, resistance to organic and mineral acids (except hydrofluoric acids and phosphoric acids), weak alkali, water, and high-pressure steam is required.

Shrinkage at 1000°C:

  • up to 12% for thermally non-treated fiber,
  • 1-3% for thermally treated (TA) fiber depending on the treatment mode.

Parameters: high-silica chopped glass fiber strands are delivered in plastic bags, 10 kg per bag.

Designation: e.g. KC6-6, where:
KC - type (high-silica chopped glass fiber strands),
6 - diameter of filament in μm,
6 - length of a chopped fiber in mm.
